Electric Vehicle Charging

Electric vehicles continue to get better and better and more and more people are looking into owning one themselves. Here are a few things to think about before running off and buying one.
Electrical Capacity: Check if your home’s electrical panel can support the additional load of an EV charger. You may need to upgrade your panel to accommodate a Level 2 charger or even your service. You can contact us for help with that and we'll be happy to assist!

Charging Location: How far from the Electrical Panel will your charger need to be?

Charger Type: How fast do I need my vehicle to charge?

Government Incentives: Does the local government or electrical utility have any rebates or incentive programs running? click here to see what BC Hydro can do.

How Much? Here Are Some Factors That Affect Price

Factors that Drive EV Charger Prices Up

  •  Charger Level - Bigger the charger, bigger the upfront investment
  • Panel Size - If your panel doesn't have enough room or your service is too small your service may need to be upgraded or an Electric Vehicle Management System installed
  • Distance From Panel - The farther away the more labour and material it will take
  • Pedestal mounts require excavation and often bollards
  • Permits - Bigger the job bigger the cost of electrical permits
  • Townhomes/stratas - often the whole complex will have to have a load calculation done to install even just one EV Charger

Factors that Drive EV Charger Prices Down

  •  Location - Panels located in garages or close to where vehicles are parked often require less work
  • Unloaded Panel - If your existing electrical loads are small this will assist in keeping cost down for installation
  • Government and Utility Incentives - Utilities often run rebate programs which can assist with your installation fees.
  • Smaller EV Chargers - Level 1 chargers are the cheapest
